Preserve Sugars Bridge Farm and Camp Barnyard

Sharlene McKinley Bund is a passionate and multifaceted individual.  She is originally from Calgary, Alberta, Canada attending the University of Victoria studying Marine/Freshwater Biology. Now a longtime resident of Delaware County (20 years) and Chester County (6 years), she has made these vibrant communities her home.

A devoted mother to two young men, Sharlene has dedicated her life to the pursuit of knowledge, wellness, and community building. With over 25 years of experience as a professional yoga teacher, her journey with yoga began at the age of 16. Sharlene is not just a practitioner but a true embodiment of the yoga philosophy, seamlessly integrating its principles into her everyday life.

In 2018, Sharlene embarked on a new chapter by purchasing Sugars Bridge Farm. When the pandemic hit, she creatively pivoted from teaching yoga to offering Alpaca Tours, bringing joy and connection to the community during a challenging time. The summer of 2021 marked the beginning of Camp Barnyard, a collaborative project with her son Keilan that was initially intended as a one-time summer camp. However, witnessing the profound and heartwarming connections between children, camp counselors ages 16 - 25, animal husbandry, and sustainable farming practices inspired them to continue. Now in 2024, Camp Barnyard has just completed its fourth successful season, with registrations reaching 80% capacity by February of 2024 and many campers leaving saying they can’t wait to return and one day they too will be camp counselors.

"Camp Barnyard has become one of the most inspiring projects I have ever been a part of," Sharlene reflects, underscoring her deep commitment to fostering meaningful experiences for the next generation.

Whether through yoga, marine biology, farming, or her work as co-director of Camp Barnyard, Sharlene’s life is a testament to her dedication to nurturing both people and the planet.
